Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile includes a wide variety of clay products fired into thin units which are set in beds of mortar or mastic with the joints between tiles grouted. Varieties include quarry tile, porcelain tile, terra cotta tile, and others.

  • Quarry
  • Traditional quarry tile was unglazed and either red or gray; however, modern "decorator" tiles come in a variety of tints and finishes. I
  • Porcelain
  • Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating raw materials, generally including clay in the form of kaolin, in a kiln to temperatures between 1,200 °C (2,192 °F) and 1,400 °C (2,552 °F). The toughness, strength, and translucence of porcelain arise mainly from the formation of glass and the mineral mullite within the fired body at these high temperatures.
  • Terra Cotta
  • Terra cotta, Terracotta or Terra-cotta (Italian: "baked earth", from the Latin terra cocta) is a clay-based unglazed ceramic.

Since granite is a natural stone and its appearance varies, you should plan to visit one of our partner's stoneyards to make the perfect section for your kitchen if you choose granite for your floor. It can be pink to dark gray or even black, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Granite is nearly always massive, hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone.
  • Marble
  • Marble, like granite, is a natural stone. We work with many stoneyards to provide you the largest selection of marble. Since marble is a natural stone and its appearance varies, you should plan to visit one of our partner's stoneyards to make the perfect section for your kitchen if you choose marble for your floor. Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of very pure limestones. The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxides, or chert which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. Green coloration is often due to serpentine resulting from originally high magnesium limestone or dolostone with silica impurities. These various impurities have been mobilized and recrystallized by the intense pressure and heat of the metamorphism.
Wood

Many different species of wood are fabricated into wood flooring in two primary forms: plank and parquet. Bamboo flooring is also available. While bamboo is technically not a wood, bamboo flooring is installed and functions much like wood flooring. Reclaimed lumber has a unique appearance and is green.

  • Parquet
  • Parquetry is a geometric mosaic of wood pieces used for decorative effect. The two main uses of parquetry are as veneer patterns on furniture and block patterns for floors. The patterns of parquet flooring are entirely geometrical and angular— squares, triangles, lozenges. The use of curved and natural shapes constitutes marquetry rather than parquetry. The most popular parquet flooring pattern is herringbone.
